Something New, Something Classic: The Steve Wallace Quartet Swings into Action

Steve WallaceThe name The Steve Wallace Quartet may be new but its members are seasoned pros and they're launching in style on March 9th! Led by master bassist Steve Wallace, this hard-swinging group delivers a powerhouse mix of bebop, ballads, blues and jazz standards, all with a no-nonsense, straight-ahead energy.

Wallace, a Toronto-born jazz veteran with nearly five decades of experience, has shared the stage with some of the greats - Fraser MacPherson, Woody Herman, Oscar Peterson and The Boss Brass, to name a few. Now, he's joined by a dynamic trio of rising stars from Nanaimo:

Cayleigh Borsboom (saxophones) - One of BC's finest saxophonists, bringing fire and finesse.

Kosma Busheikin (guitar) - A Czech-born musician equally at home in blues, swing, and straight-ahead jazz.

Graham Villette (drums) - A rock-solid groove master who's been laying down beats since his teens.

But that's not all-this show isn't just about live music; it's also a journey into jazz history. GSJS is teaming up with the Comox Valley Art Gallery to welcome guest writer Chris Wong, who will read from his newly released book Journeys to the Bandstand: Thirty Jazz Lives in Vancouver. This fascinating collection of stories spotlights the creative lives of artists who have shaped Vancouver's jazz scene and beyond. Chris Wong

Don't miss this thrilling fusion of past, present, and future-an unforgettable night of music, storytelling, and swing!
