![]() Okay jazz lovers, you're invited to join the friendly jazz-loving folk when The D. Blinzinger Quartet takes the stage at 7:00 pm to explore sounds, harmony, and creativity at its finest! The band consists of some of Comox Valley's best-known musicians: Grahame Edwards on bass; Michael Eddy on piano and Ram Sudama on drums, together with leader Dave Blinzinger on saxophone and flute.
Dave told me, "Grahame and Michael and I have played as a trio together for over 10 years now, and with the recent addition of Ram we have decided to stay as a quartet. All the musicians are veterans of the Comox Valley jazz scene, and we're determined to support the Georgia straight Jazz Society's goal of keeping live performances of jazz music alive in the Comox Valley and surrounding communities. We play jazz standards, ranging from the big band era to post bop, but most of all we like to venture further afield from time to time to expand our repertoire. In this regard each musician brings something unique to the table, and we've really focussed hard on new material for this performance." "I like to explore completely improvised and experimental music which has influences and inspirations ranging from the late, great tenor saxophonist Pharoah Sanders (known for his overblowing, harmonic, and multiphonic techniques) to sax player Wayne Shorter." If you plan on attending, please assist the volunteers working the main entrance, since they are still learning the new venue procedures. Meals from the pub menu will be served until 8:00 PM, and drinks will be served for the duration of the two-hour concert.
