Originally from Ottawa, ON, Teighan Couch moved to Nanaimo with dreams of becoming a vocalist under the inspiration of her favourite jazz artists Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie and the Oscar Peterson Trio. She is a powerful, soulful vocalist with a knack for scat and a devoted love for the healing power of song.
Teighan last performed for the Georgia Straight Jazz Society at The Little Red Church, in February 2023. She is excited to be returning to Courtney this Thursday, October 12th, with a quintet under her own leadership at The Little Red Church.
The quintet will feature a line-up of incredible young musicians with Garret Poitras on vibraphone, Andrew Janusson on guitar, Brock Meades on bass and Adam Robertson on drums.
Teighan will be showcasing something special this performance and the quintet will be playing a number of Teighan's original compositions that are going to be featured on a soon to be recorded EP. Her music draws inspiration steeped in the traditions of swing, bebop and many great musicians such as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, the Oscar Peterson Trio, Ahmad Jamal, Roy Hargrove and many more. Her peers are all graduates from the Vancouver Island University Jazz Studies Program and Teighan herself just finished her degree last spring.
The show starts at 7:30p.m. with doors opening at 7:00 p.m. Admission is $20 ($15 for GSJS Members) and $5 for students.
