The Georgia Straight Jazz Society

At the Avalanche Bar & Grill 275 8th Street, Courtenay

Jenn Forsland

November 7th 2019

Members $10 non members $12

Jenn Forsland was pretty pumped in her recent interview about her upcoming show for the Georgia Straight Jazz Society on Thursday, November 7 at the Avalanche Bar.

"The music will be a trip down memory lane and will feature my favourites from the Great American Songbook," Jen said. "A little something for everyone from the sweet to the sassy, the melancholy to the sentimental. Expect some humour and some storytelling to sew together the tunes."

Jenn will be joined by Rick Husband (guitar), Grahame Edwards (bass), Tom Tinsley (percussion), Rachel Cooper (saxophone), and Cam Boyce (violin). "Lucky me!" Jenn added.

"Last time I was booked to play The Avalanche in February 2018, my show got cancelled and the whole Valley closed down on account of a record-breaking snowfall," Jenn recalled. "This year, I'm hoping for better weather!"

For 12 years, Jenn has played an integral role in the Comox Valley music scene. A distinguished graduate of the music education program at UVic, Jenn trained classically as a vocalist, pianist, and conductor. For over 20 years, Jenn has worked with singers of all ages, as a teacher, conductor, adjudicator, and clinician. In addition to her role as musical director of the Island Voices Chamber Choir since 2014, she also directs the Celebration Singers and the Grace Notes Womens' Ensemble and maintains an active performing schedule. With enthusiasm and passion, she inspires singers of all ages to work towards choral and vocal excellence, musical sensitivity and a joyful expression of self through the shared musical experience. As a performer, Jenn continues to push her personal boundaries by exploring a variety of styles with a plethora of different musicians. Since establishing herself in the Comox Valley, she has performed and recorded with dozens of different musicians, exploring bluegrass, rock and roll, folk, indie, classical, country and jazz.

Jenn's entertaining and engaging performance will start at 7:30 pm. Since she's a popular artist, you'd be wise to get to The Avalanche a little early if you're planning to meet or sit with friends. As always, this will be a great show. Admission will be $10 for members, $12 for non-members.

It is all rush seating, there are no reservations.
