Heather Keizur & Steve Christofferson
Members $10, non-members $12
Celebrating romance in French and English, Heather Keizur and Steve Christofferson return to Courtenay. This will be an easy-going evening of impeccably performed predominantly romantic ballads, so if you're new to jazz or you want to find out about the warm atmosphere that pervades Thursday Night Jazz At The Avalanche, this is the night for you!
Hailing from Portland, Oregon, Heather and Steve stand out from the crowd in a refreshing and powerful way, with a combination of authentic French chansons and classic standards blended with strong chemistry and a joyful, swinging jazz sensibility.
"Favorites" will be the focus of this show, with special attention given to the music of Tony Bennett, David Frishberg, Blossom Dearie and others. Like Dearie, Keizur is a fluent interpreter of songs in the French language, and Heather's love for Piaf means a tribute to the Little Sparrow will be on the program too.
Keizur and Christofferson have performed together for over ten years. According to Keizur, "Steve was a last-minute fill-in on a gig in December 2008 and that was the beginning of our musical journey. That's when the magic began."
Heather, who was raised in BC, "is a wonderfully talented jazz singer. She's very mindful of the lyrics, making them her own personal story tinged with sadness, or love then dipped in a little French au jus for a hint of European style. It's a dreamy feeling." says Michael Elliot, Hollywood composer.
Steve's piano, melodica, and vocals add a powerful depth to the duo's music. One listener said he had never heard a vocalist and pianist more in tune with one another. According to Oregon Music News, "Steve Christofferson is a master of the fine art of accompanying singers."
Keizur and Christofferson CDs (J'ai Deux Amours 2010, Under My Skin 2014, Moon River 2017) share "...idyllic communication and shine with great feeling and musicianship." - Jazz Society of Oregon
