Lauren Bush Quintet
Members $10, non-members $12
Welcome to 2019 at The Avalanche, and another wonderful year of weekly live jazz music.
To start it off we have someone very special. It's been more than nine years since Lauren Bush appeared on our stage - in fact her last Thursday Night Jazz appearance was back at The Elks on Sixth Street in 2009.
During the intervening years Lauren graduated from the jazz program at Vancouver Island University (VIU), developed her jazz vocal career and is now resident in London, England. We've managed to capture her while she's back on a short holiday at her family home in Nanaimo. What makes her performance even more interesting is that she's teamed up with her dad, trumpet player Greg Bush, who is well known and appreciated in the local jazz scene thanks to his many appearances with the Arrowsmith Big Band, and his role as Director of Georgia Straight Big Band.
Add to these, Patrick Courtin on keyboard; John Hyde, bass, and VIU's Adam Robertson on drums, and you're assured of a wonderful evening of easy listening jazz music.
Lauren doesn't get to the island very often, so this is a rare chance to hear her renditions of her favourite songs along with her great scat chops.
Browse the Calendar page of our website for more information about the 38 scheduled concerts in the forthcoming year 2019. That way, you will quickly realize why Courtenay has become a significant performance destination on the Canadian jazz scene.
GSJS showcases jazz live in the Comox Valley, giving music lovers an opportunity to enjoys local, regional and internationally-known jazz musicians.
