Some of Comox Valley and Campbell River's finest jazz artists will be preforming when Sympatico Jazz takes the stage. This Comox Valley Band has been together for 6 years and makes regular appearances at the Georgia Straight Jazz Society.
Fresh from last week's stunning performance at the Nanaimo Jazz Festival, Sympatico Jazz is led by Don MacKay on five-string fretless bass and Michael Eddy on keyboard and features Tom Tinsley on drums, Rachel Fuller on Alto sax, clarinet and Electronic Wind Instrument, Jay Havelaar on trumpet and flugelhorn, and Rick Husband on guitar.
These well-known and much-loved musicians play an invigorating program which recognizes the incredible talent of composers such as Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Wayne Shorter, and Horace Silver. Including well-known tunes with selections of original music, Sympatico promises and delivers exceptional performances.
On piano, Michael Eddy maintains a solid, sensitive approach to accompaniment and performs some very fiery solos. Eddy's incredible talent and his compassionate approach to tackling very challenging music makes this band an absolute pleasure to listen to.
Rachel Fuller and Jay Havelaar, on horns, play so well together that at times you would think you were listening to one instrument, not two--expect to hear them at their finest.
Rick Husband on guitar brings a style which is perfectly in step with the rest of the band with his harmonic insights and strong rhythmic command. Audiences look forward to Rick's masterful solos.
On fretless five string bass, Don MacKay is totally in the groove with dynamics and tempos locked right in. MacKay's solo contributions often challenge the bounds of traditional bass playing.
Drummer Tom Tinsley brings to the band a wealth of musical expertise and plays with both engaging energy and distinctive flavours to spice Sympatico's music.
