Elaine Lakeman

Members $10, non-members $12 at the door.

After last week's blockbuster season opener by the Ryan Oliver Quartet, live Thursday Night Jazz at The Avalanche Bar introduces a new face to our stage when Elaine Lakeman sings wonderfully crafted and melodic songs; she connects with each of her songs at an emotional level that is the hallmark of a true song artist. Elaine is a born communicator who loves people and their stories enjoys sharing them in beautiful carefully fashioned classic melodies. Her honey sweet voice and careful choice of repertoire combined with the fact she uses the finest musicians makes every performance an event to remember.

Elaine has a warmth and charm that is ever present in her musicality and interpretations. Her show will include Can We Still Be Friends; Peel Me A Grape; You Don't Have To Say You Love Me, and Dream A Little Dream.

The band comprises Tasha (Natasha) Adams, bass; Lloyd English, guitar, and Myles English on rhythm guitar.

Last year, Elaine released her CD When It Rains. This year she is working collaboratively with Lloyd to create a completely original repertoire of her own songs that will be recorded and released next month. Songs from both these albums will be included in Thursday's show. This next step in her career as a songstress will without doubt establish her as a Canadian artist with a voice that has something unique to say. Said Elaine," Our show is a mix of jazz, with some blues, a touch of country and added Latin. Its eclectic and fun. I particularly enjoy performing in the style of Patsie Cline and Dusty Springfield. We like to make people laugh and cry."

This will be an evening of easy, comfortable music, so if you're getting acquainted with jazz, and want to share the warm atmosphere of this regular Thursday venue, come on down and discover why Courtenay has such a tremendous jazz scene.
