John Lee Trio
Members $10, non-members $12
With only five weeks remaining in the current performance year (September to May), Georgia Straight Jazz Society is building a crescendo of great acts. After last the roof-raising performance two weeks ago by the Ryan Oliver Quartet which introduced a full audience to new heights in tenor sax performance, we're continuing with a return performance by the John Lee Trio. Said Lee, "We will be playing hard swinging standards mixed with my originals. I have never played my own material for GSJS so I am looking forward to it!"
Lee, is a graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston after studying with three-time Grammy Award-winning drummer Terri Lyne Carrington. John performed with Cyrus Chestnut, George Colligan, Larry Fuller and Seamus Blake in early 2015. Subsequently, he performed for the first time at the TD Victoria International Jazz Festival that same year. Lee chose the music material for those performances - drawing from the inspirations of his favourite music involving the guitar and Hammond B3 Organ.
We're never quite sure which John Lee will be performing because of his instrumental diversity. For those fans who follow his career, you will be excited to know that John will be playing drums this Thursday, with Liam MacKay, guitar, and Tony Genge on Hammond B3 organ.
Tony has performed with Phil Dwyer, Neil Swainson, Kieran Overs, and Terry O'Mahoney. He's the most sought-after jazz organist on the Island, and among Canada's great keyboard artists.
John's shows are always exciting, and you shouldn't pass the opportunity to hear this exceptional music. When you attend a performance by John Lee, you can always expect a virtuosic show with a great deal of positive energy.
