Big Band fans, this is your special notice!
With only a handful of performances remaining in Georgia Straight Jazz Society's 2017-19 calendar, the popular 16 Piece Arrowsmith Jazz Band will be returning the extended stage for an evening jazz performance. The band, now in its 31st year, will feature a wide variety of compositions and arrangements in an eclectic mix of jazz styles. Dave Stewart, trumpeter, said, "The band is pleased to perform on stage with their guest artist the great Tenor Saxophonist and composer Rick Hirsh, from Georgia USA."
As well, jazz society favourites Calaudio Fantinato and Dan Craven will be in the front row on alto and tenor saxophones, weaving their magic once again.
The band will feature works of Rick Hirsch and the talented Greg Bush who is well known to the Comox Valley. The program will also include some works by other renowned composers and arrangers, and is sure to please the audience. The Arrowsmith Jazz Band has an impressive mix of some top Jazz players, from six Vancouver Island communities: Ladysmith, Nanaimo, Parksville, Qualicum Beach and Port Aberni and Courtenay.
