A beautiful romantic, charming and entertaining evening awaits you when the Georgia Straight Jazz Society presents from Portland, Oregon, bilingual vocalist Heather Keizur and pianist Steve Christofferson.
It was three years ago when Heather and Steve first charmed us with their performance; they were so popular that they returned to memorably play in our summer "Jazz at the Gardens on Anderton" series in July 2015.
Keizur and Christofferson have performed together for over nine years. According to Keizur, "Steve was a last-minute fill-in on a gig in December 2008 and that was the beginning of their musical journey. That's when the magic began." Keizur and Christofferson are of one mind when it comes to making music. "The secret," Joe Williams once said, "Is to sing like there's no tomorrow." When Keizur and Christofferson perform together, you feel as if they have been doing so all their lives.
In August, 2017 Keizur and Christofferson celebrated the release of their premier duo CD, Moon River. Describing Moon River, the Jazz Society of Oregon says Heather and Steve share "... idyllic communication. The entire album shines with great feeling and musicianship. A rare sense of intimacy, a beautifully crafted performance."
David K Mathews, pianist for Santana, describes Keizur and Christofferson as, "Two friends...making music together, informed by a common sensibility. The passionate chanteuse, enamored with songs of love, and the exquisite pianist, weaving a subtle tapestry of sound around the poignant lyrics and melodies. Knowing Heather and Steve for many years, and having performed and recorded with them, I'm certain that I'm not alone in hearing something unique, something magical."
Heather Keizur who was raised in BC, "is a wonderfully talented jazz singer. She is very mindful of the lyrics, making them sound like her own personal story, tinged with a bit of sadness, or love, then dipped in a little French au jus for a hint of European style. It's kind of a dreamy feeling." says Michael Elliot, Hollywood composer.
Christofferson's piano, melodica, and vocals add a powerful depth to the duo's music. One listener said he had never heard a vocalist and pianist more in tune with one another. According to Oregon Music News, "Steve Christofferson is a master of the fine art of accompanying singers."
The concert will include songs from Moon River, including the title track and the classic Jaques Brel song, "Ne me quitte pas," Tony Bennett's "How Do You Keep the Music Playing," Banda Magda's upbeat French samba, "Amours t'es la?", and duets such as Cole Porter's, "Let's Misbehave."
