Indigo takes you on a Jazz Road Trip!

Dale Graham and Rick Husband are two of the most popular and well-known jazz artists in Comox Valley, and Georgia Straight Jazz Society has great pleasure to bring you their very special wet weather escape this Thursday when they host you on an exciting musical journey as Indigo Jazz takes you Around the World in 80 Minutes. How about a sweet rendezvous with Joni Mitchell beneath the Matala moon? Or a desert Caravan, or Harlem's A-Train? Whether you love the romance of "Slow Boat to China", or dig the high-altitude thrill of "500 Miles High", this talented quintet brings your travel fantasies to the jazz stage at The Avalanche Bar & Grill .

The show will open with Teri Thornton's hit "Open Highway". Nelson Riddle wrote this theme music for the early 1960s television show Route 66, and you're likely to find yourself time-travelling when you hear those classic jazz riffs. Anyone remember Tod and Buzz's '62 Corvette?

"Serenade to a Bus Seat" is the unlikely title for an up-tempo Clark Terry bebop tune. Indigo trumpeter Jay Havelaar will take that one for a ride early in the evening. Jay also takes the lead on "The Other Road", a street-smart straight-time 3/4 tune by Californian guitarist Ed Johnson.

Jazz guitar fans will welcome Wes Montgomery's happy-go-lucky "Road Song" and the compelling Pat Metheny ballad "Travels". Both tunes put Indigo guitarist Rick Husband squarely in the spotlight.

Bassist John Hyde and drummer Aaron Amar downshift the band's groove for a funky re-imagining of the Patsy Cline hit "Walkin' After Midnight". John and Aaron will further demonstrate their mind-reading skills when they range into Afro-Cuban and Middle Eastern flavours for Joni Mitchell's "Carey" and Duke Ellington's "Caravan".

Vocalist Dale Graham is the mistress of misdirection for the evening, with offerings such as "Let's Get Lost", "Detour Ahead". "Two For The Road" might also prove confusing, given that there are most definitely five musicians in this particular speedster!

Indigo Jazz Quintet offers everyone a "Ticket to Ride" on the jazz travels road trip.

You're also reminded that tickets will be on sale this Thursday for the B3 Kings Christmas Concert on December 15th. They're selling fast ($16 and $20 for members and non-members respectively), so don't delay and run the risk of missing this fabulous concert. Tickets are also on sale at Bop City and Red Carpet.
