BROWNMAN ELECTRYC TRIO Ignites the Stage with Genre-Bending Brilliance

Thursday May 1st 2025, 7:00 pm at 40 Knots, Comox

Brownman AliAward-winning trio fuses jazz, hip-hop, funk, and soul into a powerhouse sound that's turning heads and redefining electric jazz.

Straight out of Brooklyn, NY, the two-time National Jazz Award-winning BROWNMAN ELECTRYC TRIO is electrifying the global music scene with their explosive fusion of jazz and Black American Music artforms. Think Miles Davis meets J Dilla - where gritty hip-hop grooves collide with funk, soul, r'n'b, and jungle, all underpinned by fearless improvisation and jazz storytelling

Led by Trinidadian-born trumpet firebrand BROWNMAN ALI-a protégé of jazz legend Randy Brecker - the trio brings a swaggering virtuosity and boundary - pushing energy to the stage. Their critically acclaimed albums Juggernaut and Gravitation have topped charts and captivated audiences with their high-voltage soundscapes and genre-defiant approach.

Beyond the trio, Brownman is a force of nature. The internationally acclaimed artist has toured with Jay-Z, Kanye West and Missy Elliot, earned a 2024 JUNO Award nomination and made history as the first jazz musician to win the Black IMPACT Award. Called "Canada's preeminent jazz trumpet player" by The New York Village Voice, "the new standard in electric jazz" by NPR, and "one of the most exploratory voices in jazz trumpet today" by the Chicago Tribune, Brownman continues to push the limits of modern jazz.

He recently took First Place at the 2024 International Songwriting Competition in the Jazz category for his standout composition Wisdom of Aurelius, besting 17,000 entries from 120 countries. As CEO of Browntasauras Records, his Brooklyn-based label is home to eight bands he leads, produces and mentors - putting artist equity and innovation at the heart of everything he does.
