Dave Stewart Septet

"Seven Steps to Heaven" a Tribute to Miles Davis

Members $10 - non members $12

Georgia Straight Jazz has hit an era of "Tributes". Dave Stewart promises us an evening of jazz in the form of "A Tribute to Miles Davis".

The Dave Stewart Septet is an ensemble of outstanding in-demand local musicians from Central Vancouver Island, who will be appearing at The Avalanche Bar and Grill.

Until his death in 1991, Miles Davis had an outstanding career in jazz music that spanned more than six full decades. Miles' career was marked by new styles, innovative sounds and collaboration with other jazz greats, thus greatly evolving the jazz scene. The septet is looking forward to sharing their interpretations of Davis' work with a special focus on his music from the "Cool Jazz Era", a musically prolific and significant period in Miles' life from 1955-1961. The outstanding skills of the septet members gives the flexibility to arrange and perform these musical gems from this great jazz giant for today's audiences in their show fittingly titled "Seven Steps To Heaven" in reference to the number in the group and to one of the musical numbers they perform.

The Dave Stewart Septet is composed of a stellar list of musicians: Dave Stewart (trumpet), Claudio Fantinato (alto saxophone), Dan Craven (tenor Saxophone), Jeff Agopsowicz (trombone) Chad Geekie (piano), Wayne Finucan (drums), and Rob Uffen (bass). Although each is an individually passionate and talented musician, they collectively make up a dynamic combination that only serves to inspire an even higher level of musical excellence. Given the musical concentration offered by jazz society members to excellent levels of performance, this show will result in new highs. Plan on being there to experience this exceptional show.
